Sidecar for Clover

Clover runs your counter. Sidecar's reports tell you what it means.

Keep the register your staff already know. Sidecar reads your Clover sales, products and customers and gives you the margin, stock and customer reports Clover's own reporting stops short of.

Connecting

Three steps, about fifteen minutes.

You'll need your Clover owner login. Nothing is installed on your register.

  1. 1

Make a read-only key in Clover

In your Clover dashboard, create an API token and tick only the read permissions we list. We walk you through it screen by screen — about five minutes.

  2. 2

    Paste it into Sidecar

We check the key and show you the shop it belongs to — name, address, how many products and customers — before anything is imported.

  3. 3

    We bring your history across

Up to 3 years of sales import in the background. After that, Sidecar checks Clover for new sales every 5 minutes.

One key per shop

Clover treats each location as its own merchant. Three shops means three keys — we'll prompt you for each.

Read-only. This key can see your sales; it can't change a price or take a payment.

What comes across

Exactly what we can read from Clover — and what we can't.

Some reports need information Clover doesn't keep. Rather than fill the gaps with estimates, we tell you where they are.

Cash drawer countsNot in CloverClover logs that a drawer was opened, but not the opening float or what was counted. There's nothing to reconcile.

Want drawer counts and wage cost too? Those come with Square, which records them.

Questions

Clover, specifically.

Why do I make a key instead of clicking “Connect”?
Sidecar isn't on the Clover App Market, so Clover doesn't offer a one-click connection to us. A key you create yourself works just as well for reading your data — and because you made it, you can see exactly what it's allowed to do and delete it whenever you like.
Can Sidecar change anything in my Clover?
Not with a key set up the way we show you. It has read permissions only, so it can see your sales and products but can't edit a price, add an item or take a payment. Sidecar never writes to Clover either way.
Do I need one key per shop?
Yes. Clover treats each shop as a separate merchant, so each gets its own key. Once they're connected, Sidecar shows all your shops together, sharing one catalog.
Will my staff notice anything?
No. Nothing changes on the Clover register. Sidecar only reads what's already there.
How do I disconnect?
Delete the key in your Clover dashboard and access stops immediately. You can also disconnect from Sidecar's settings.
